Cancer kills around 2.7 million Chinese people every year. In other words, there is one death due to the disease every five minutes in china, a government-recognized report reveals.
One in five people in china has a possibility to develop cancer, if they live to be 74, the China Daily cited the 2012 Cancer Registry Annual Report as saying.
As per reports, there is one death from cancer every five minutes on the Chinese mainland, this means around 2.7 million people get killed due to cancer every year.
The statistics was based on data collected from 72 cancer surveillance sites in 24 provinces that includes 85 million people.
The cancer rates were found 285.91 per 100,000 people, bringing 3.12 million new cases a year.
Most of the cases of cancer that killed majority of the people were found in body organs like lung, stomach, colorectal and liver.
Liu Yuewu, a prominent cancer specialist at a hospital in Beijing, said that in the recent years, thyroid cancer will be the fastest growing cancer in recent years.
In 1986, the hospital carried out surgery eight times for patients with thyroid cancer. The figure has now reached to 1,125 in 2012.
The Beijing Institute for Cancer Research has revealed that the incidence of thyroid cancer more than doubled in the capital in a decade.
According to the reports on an average 7,300 people die from cancer on the mainland China, every day. Patients aged more than 60 years account for 63 percent of the total deaths.
