Intel seeking partnership with Amazon and Samsung for web TV service

Washington, Sat, 28 Sep 2013 ANI

Washington, Sept. 28 (ANI): Intel Corp. is reportedly seeking to gain partnerships with Amazon and Samsung in order to kick-start its web-television service.

Sources said that Intel's new CEO Brian M. Krzanich has emphasized getting Intel chips into mobile devices and the shift in strategy to target the web-TV service requires the company to partner with existing customers and marketing experience to make it a success.

A New York-based digital television consultant, Bernard Gershon said that for Intel to launch and pay the networks what they're getting from the cable companies makes it a very difficult proposition.

According to Mashable, potential partners include online retailer Amazon.com, which runs a pay-video service, and TV set maker Samsung Electronics Co.

The report said that Intel has been working on a Web-based television product since at least early 2012 and general manager of Intel Media, Erik Huggers had said in February that the company planned to start service this year.

Intel plans to offer the web-TV service inclusive of both channels with live programming and a large library of video-on-demand.

Both Amazon and Samsung's spokespersons declined to comment. (ANI)
