Agra, Sep 27 (IANS) Agra's tourism industry got an air-conditioned toilet complex at the western gate parking slot of the Taj Mahal on World Tourism Day.
UP's Tourism Minister Onkar Singh Friday inaugurated the Sulabh Shauchalaya. He said state Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav is keen to develop Agra as an ideal tourist spot with better infrastructure, an airport, Agra-Lucknow Expressway and much more.
He appealed to the residents of Agra to keep the city clean, just as "they keep their houses clean".
Tourism industry circles were hoping the minister would announce new projects and green-signal reduction of value added tax from 22 to four percent on aviation fuel to attract airlines to touch Agra's Kheria airport, as promised a year ago by the chief minister -- but they got the toilet complex instead.
The complex has 11 seats, including one for the disabled. It has been built mainly for the vehicle drivers who bring in tourists. However, other people too can use it.
Sulabh's Agra incharge J. Sinha told IANS: "It cost us Rs.41 lakh."
