Not revealing things out of courtesy: Trinamool MP

Kolkata,Crime/Disaster/Accident,Politics, Sun, 22 Sep 2013 IANS

Kolkata, Sep 22 (IANS) Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member Kunal Ghosh, being grilled over the Saradha scam, Sunday virtually threatened his party saying he was not "revealing things for the sake of courtesy".

Ghosh also sought the constitution of a party commission on the issue, as "I don't want to make public, things relating to the party".

"I have always maintained I will cooperate with the investigation. You hear I may be arrested. I cannot do anything if the police arrest me."

"However, if I am arrested, I will ask the police to allow me an opportunity to hold a press conference. There are things which I am not able to reveal for the sake of courtesy," said Ghosh.

The journalist-turned-MP said he wrote to party general secretary Mukul Roy seeking formation of a commission on the Saradha Group chit fund scam so he might discuss things within the party forum and sensitive details do not come out in the public domain.

"I feel the party should set up its own commission because there are certain things which might embarrass it if I reveal them during administrative probes. I don't want to make public things relating to the party," Ghosh told media persons after police interrogated him at the Bidhannagar commissionerate for the second consecutive day.

Ghosh who headed Saradha's media arm till April, dropped a bombshell at a blood donation camp two days back when he alleged he was being made a scapegoat by those involved in the scam and apprehended he could be killed by people trying to "hush up" the matter.

The party promptly announced it would slap show cause notices on Ghosh for his anti-party comments at the programme. Two Lok Sabha members Tapas Pal and Satabdi Roy, who also aired their grievances at the forum, are facing similar action.

Within hours of his outburst, police summoned Ghosh for interrogation.

On Saturday, after four hours of questioning at the commissionerate, Ghosh alleged a "conspiracy" has been hatched against him.

But the MP denied that he has turned against the party.

"I am not against the party. I have not betrayed the party. I have not done anything which can harm the party. Those calling me traitor, anti-party and indisciplined are not saying the right thing", he said Sunday.

Ghosh has also demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the Saradha mess.

Incidentally, Saradha boss Sudipta Sen - now behind bars and facing prosecution - wrote to the CBI April 6 accusing Ghosh and several other high-profile Trinamool Congress and Congress leaders of complicity in the scam. Ghosh was interrogated by the police for the first time April 29.
