Man U defends Moyes' transfer policy in letter to 'concerned' fans

London, Sept 18 (ANI): Manchester United have reportedly written back to worried fans expressing concerns over new manager David Moyes and his transfer policy, defending Moyes and assuring that the club will not be drawn into an 'eight-week panic'.

United fans criticised the club for only adding Marouane Fellaini from Everton in a 27.5 million-pound deal and failing to purchase Barcelona duo Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara, Athletic Bilbao's Ander Herrera and Everton's Leighton Baines.

According to the Mirror, with a season-long loan of Real Madrid's Fabio Coentrao also falling through, fans thought that Moyes failed to add sufficiently to the squad and wrote to complain to the club.

Defending Moyes and Woodward, the club stated in its letter that it had achieved its two primary objectives of the window, which were keeping Wayne Rooney and adding a central midfielder to the squad in the form of Fellaini, as a key part of United's drive to retain the Premier League trophy.

According to the letter, the club will continue to back the manager in the transfer market like it has done in the past, adding that allowing Moyes to shape the future United team is a long term project not an eight-week panic.

The letter also said that Moyes must be given time to assess his new squad and come to his own decisions.

Stating that the club has a different feel to it than the one that finished last season with new signings like Fellaini and Wilfried Zaha, the letter also stated that the club has invested over 40 million pounds in acquiring new players this summer, which is more than it has traditionally spent on transfers.

Confirming that the letter, signed on behalf of director of communications Phil Townsend, had come from the club, United insisted that it was standard procedure to respond to fans who write in on a variety of topics concerning club business. (ANI)
