Kompany may return from groin injury in time for Man City match against Czech side

London, Sept 17 (ANI): Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany may reportedly make a return from a groin injury as his side begin their Champions League campaign against little-known Czech side Plzen.

According to the BBC, Kompany has been absent since his side's 4-0 win over Newcastle United in their Premier League opener on 19 August.

The report mentioned that Kompany's return, if true, will prove hopeful for the side, which is reeling from departures from its squad after defender Martin Demichelis, signed from Atletico Madrid in September, became out with a knee injury, while David Silva, Gael Clichy and Micah Richards are all doubtful.

According to City manager Manuel Pellegrini, Kompany has worked with them normally for the last two days, adding that he is hopeful that he will be 100 percent fit to play in the side against Plzen.

However, Pellegrini said that they have an extra stock of players to replace the injured stars in the match.

Plzen is on top of the Czech league with six wins in their opening eight games and beat Slovenian side Maribor in a play-off to earn a second Champions League appearance in three years, the report added. (ANI)
