Mumbai gangrape victim is stable: Jaslok Hospital

Mumbai, Aug. 23 (ANI): Doctors attending to the photojournalist, who was gangraped in Central Mumbai yesterday, on Friday said the victim is in a stable state and is able to communicate.

"She is stable now, hope she will recover soon. She is able to speak and is in the process of recovery," said Dr. Tarang Gianchandani, Jaslok Hospital's acting

CEO and Director of medical services.

Dr. Gianchandani further informed that the girl has minor internal injuries, but is not in the ICU.

One accused has been arrested in the gangrape by five men of a woman intern photojournalist. The four other accused have also been identified.

The incident took place last evening in Lower Parel area where the woman had gone for an assignment.

The 23-year-old woman was working with an English Magazine as an intern. According to police, the men tied up the friend who was accompanying her and raped the woman.

The victim had sustained multiple internal injuries.

The Centre has sought a detailed report on the gangrape incident.

Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde today said that he has spoken to the Commissioner of Police on the gangrape incident in Mumbai urging for stringent action. (ANI)
