New Delhi, Aug. 21 (ANI): UPA chairperson and Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi celebrated Raksha Bandhan with children and youth here on Wednesday.
School children rejoiced as they tied Rakhi threads on Gandhi's wrist.
The ceremony involves the tying of a sacred thread, Rakhi by a sister on her brother's wrist. This symbolizes the sister's love and prayers for her brother's well being, and the brother's vow to protect her for life.
Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) President Rajnath Singh also celebrated Raksha Bandhan with great fervour. A huge gathering of children and young women eagerly waited for their turn to tie the sacred thread on his wrist.
Singh jovially wished all the children of the country a happy and blessed Raksha Bandhan.
"I give my blessing to all those children that have come and all the children of India and wish them a happy Raksha Bandhan on this auspicious occasion," Singh said. (ANI)
