Mission 2014: Modi mocks UPA's foreign policy, rakes up Telangana issue

Hyderabad , Sun, 11 Aug 2013 ANI

Hyderabad, Aug. 11 (ANI): Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched a frontal attack on Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, and questioned the Congress-led UPA Government's 'soft stand' on Pakistan despite the brutal killing of Indian jawans along the Line of Control (LoC).

Modi, who kicked off the BJP's South India campaign from Hyderabad, questioned the Prime Minister's silence over brutal killing of Indian jawans by the Pakistani army.

"We need to send a strong message to Pakistan. They need to understand that there will be consequences. Again the trust of the nation has been broken, this government cannot ensure India's security," he added.

Modi accused the Congress-led UPA Government of practicing vote bank politics, and alleged that it is compromising on national security.

"This government is immersed in vote bank politics and is turning a blind eye to India's security. On the Bangladesh border, the BSF has been instructed not to use force to stop the infiltrators," he said.

"China came within our borders, the whole and world saw it...... I am surprised that the government took such a decision that while China went back, the Indian Army was forced out of our own territory," he added.

Criticizing the Centre's foreign policy, Modi also hit out at the Foreign Minister.

"The Indian Foreign Minster went to China and said he wanted to stay in Beijing.....They are rubbing salt into the wounds of India's citizens," he added.

Modi also lashed out at External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid for hosting a lunch in honour of former Pakistani Prime Minister Raza Pervez Ashraf in Jaipur during his personal visit to Ajmer Sharif Dargarh earlier in March this year.

"Indian Foreign Minister went to Jaipur and fed guests from Pakistan Biryani... he said it was protocol. What protocol should we follow with people whose countrymen have cut off the heads of our soldiers?" he asked amid a thumping applause from the crowd.

"Undertrials in Indian jails don't get bail, but the two Italian marines who shot Indian fishermen got bail. They had run off to Italy, came back only when Supreme Court put pressure on the government," he added.

Alleging that divide and rule is the policy of the Congress, Modi also used the occasion to reach out to those presently annoyed over the Centre's nod for the creation of a separate Telangana state to be carved out of Andhra Pradesh.

"The Congress policy has been to divide and rule. They promised Telangana in 2004. Andhra Pradesh sends the most Congress MPs to Delhi. What did Andhra Pradesh get?" asked Modi.

Asserting that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee promised the formation of smaller states in 2004, Modi said Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand and Jharkhand were later formed, but it was in good taste and in the interest of all.

"The BJP has been in favour of Telangana since long. I had earlier said that in 100 days we will form Telangana. But we had said even then that Seemandhra will not be ignored, the development in Seemandhra should be such that the whole nation should be proud of it," he added.

Modi, who earlier addressed the gathering in Telugu, also used the occasion to connect with the youngsters.

"You youngsters are worried about the country. I am worried about you all. Congress rules in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh... and both states lead the national statistics in suicide. The youth in Andhra Pradesh have to go to Gulf countries to earn two square meals," he added.

The Gujarat Chief Minister further alleged that the Omar Abdullah Government detained senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley at the Jammu Airport on his way to riot-hit Kishtwar to hide conspiracy behind the violence.

Modi, who addressed the party workers and supporters at the historic Lal Bahadur Stadium here, also hailed the BJP's Andhra unit for contribution to Uttarakhand relief fund.

The Gujarat Chief Minister ended his speech with the renowned Barack Obama chant-'Yes We can'.

Over 70,000 supporters had gathered for Modi's rally, which was the first big political event in the city since the Centre's nod for the formation of a separate Telangana state.

The BJP left no stone unturned to canvas for Modi's first public meeting in the city.

The Andhra Pradesh Police had made adequate security arrangements for Modi's rally. The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen had expressed concern that the Gujarat Chief Minister's visit will raise communal tensions. (ANI)
