Amritsar, Aug.9 (ANI): Youth Congress activists stopped the Delhi-Lahore bus near Amritsar on Friday, protesting the killing of five Indian soldiers by Pakistani Specialist Forces on Tuesday along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch District.
The protest took place at Chheharta, about 25 kilometers from the Wagah Border check post that separates India from Pakistan.
One of the protesting members of the Youth Congress appealed to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to terminate all services, including bus, train and visa between the two countries till Pakistan does not accept responsibility for the LoC killings.
"This is a warning to Pakistan that this agitation will not stop. Till the time Pakistan Government does not take responsibility to punish those killers, our Youth Congress will not let the bus pass through Punjab. Every time we extend our hands to Pakistan for friendship, they have ended up killing our soldiers or destroying peace in this region.
Meanwhile, in Srinagar, many protestors took to the streets after Eid prayers, forcing the police to use tear gas shells and pellet guns to disperse them.
Immediately after Eid prayers, protesters waved flags of Pakistan and the Lashkar-e-Taiba and shouted anti-India slogans.
Reports said dozens of protesters, police and paramilitary officers were injured in clashes at several places in Srinagar.
Crowds took to the streets to express their deep resentment against the Indian Government. Police retaliated by firing tear gas shells to restore peace.
Hundreds of Muslims had gathered on Friday at the famous 'Eidgah' Park in Srinagar to offer special prayers on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. (ANI)
