Bhubaneshwar (Odisha), Aug 6 (ANI): A hardcore Maoist involved in crimes like murder and abduction, surrendered before police in Odisha.

Naseeb Nayak, an active Maoist for the past four years, said that the involvement of his party chief and other members in illegitimate activities had been bothering him for a long time.

"I joined the Maoists in November, 2009. I left the party because they misbehaved with women cadres. They had a lot of money, but we had no idea where the money was coming from. We were also ignorant of there contacts and we did not recognize the people who came to meet them," he said.

He also said that he was not allowed to meet his family members and it was only after he left the camp that he got to know of his father's demise.

Nayak was an area committee member in 'Odisha Maobadi Party' run by Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda.

Nayak informed the police that Panda was involved in illicit relationships with women.

Police said Nayak was involved in 20 Maoist attacks.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Amitabh Thakur said: "He (Naseeb Nayak) was involved in Aliganda encounter. He had a hand in the bombardment of a BSNL tower. He abducted a surrendered former Naxalite, Prakash Dal Bera. Other than that, he was involved in more than two dozens of cases."

Nayak also revealed that they were not given money to buy basic commodities and he wanted to move out of the camp and lead a normal life.

The Maoists, who are considered to be India's greatest internal security threat, have off-late intensified their operations in Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and some areas of West Bengal. (ANI)
