New Delhi, Aug 6 (ANI): Following the killing of five Indian soldiers by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch District late on Monday night, Minister of Information and Broadcasting Manish Tewari on Tuesday assured that the Ministry of Defence would come out with an appropriate response.
"It is very unfortunate that even before the full details of the incident are in, people have started reacting in a matter which is extremely partisan. There are certain issues which are above politics. Let's ascertain all the details and I am confident that the Ministry of Defence will come out with an appropriate response," he told media here today.
Tewari also requested opposition parties to stop politicising this issue.
"I would like to request our friends in the opposition that there are certain issues on which you do not need to play politics with national security," he said.
He further asserted that the UPA Government has always been unrelenting on questions of national security and said that the Government has always been more than forthcoming on issues that needed to be surmounted.
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi criticised the UPA Government, saying such attacks were unacceptable.
"From China's intrusions to Pakistan's ambushes- UPA Government has been absolutely lax in securing Indian borders. When will Centre wake up?," Modi tweeted.
Former BJP president Nitin Gadkari said India's borders were unsafe and internal security was under threat.
He urged and appealed to the UPA Government not consider having talks with Pakistan when the country's soldiers were being decapitated and shot along the LoC without reason.
Television reports said Pakistani troops entered India to carry out the attack against patrolling soldiers along the LoC.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah confirmed the news of the death of the five Indian soldiers along the Line of Control that separates India from Pakistan on Tuesday morning via micro-blogging site Twitter.
"Was briefed early this morning about news that five of our soldiers had been killed on the LoC. My heartfelt condolences to their next of kin," Abdullah tweeted.
Meanwhile, Pakistan on Tuesday denied that it fired upon Indian Army soldiers and killed five of them in the Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir. (ANI)
