Shukla to chair Friday meeting, not sure of continuing

New Delhi,Sports, Thu, 01 Aug 2013 IANS

New Delhi, August 1 (IANS) Indian Premier league (IPL) chairman Rajeev Shukla Thursday said he has no qualms in chairing the Governing Council meeting here Friday, though he is not sure whether he would continue after his term ends in October.

In the wake of the IPL spot fixing scandal, Shukla had tendered his resignation, but Board Of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI) interim chief Jagmohan Dalmiya turned it down.

"I can chair the governing council meeting, it is no big deal, but the question is whether I want to continue after October," Shukla told IANS.

The governing council has been convened to discuss the report of the two-member panel on the role of board president N. Srinivasan's son-in-law Gurunath Meyappan, who is Chennai Super Kings principal, and Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj Kundra in betting and spot fixing in the sixth edition of the IPL.

The commission, comprising former judges T. Jayaram Chouta and R. Balasubramanian, submitted its report to the BCCI working committee in Kolkata last week.

Shukla, though, refused to discuss whether Srinivasan would return to chair the working committee meeting Friday.

"Whether Srinivasan will chair the working committee or not we will decide tomorrow," said Shukla.

The Bombay High Court had called the BCCI probe into the spot fixing scandal as "illegal" and the working committee will meet to plan the future course of action.

If Srinivasan does chair the working committee meeting, it will mark his official return to the Board after stepping aside for two months, handing over the reins to former BCCI chief Jagmohan Dalmiya.
