Bhilwara (Rajasthan), July 31 (ANI): The Rajasthan Government has ordered a probe into the mid-day meal incident at a school in Bhilwara district, where 76 students were hospitalised after eating a mid-day meal.

The state government has reportedly ordered the district administration to dismiss the school's principal and suspend a mid-day meal monitoring official.

Bhilwara District Collector Onkar Singh said the school's principal had been dismissed and the official in-charge of the mid-day meal had been suspended. Two cooks have also been fired.

"An inquiry under the supervision of the sub-divisional magistrate is under way. The report will be ready in three days. Samples of the meal served today have been sent for investigation. This is serious and we will take prompt action against the guilty," Singh said.

"After eating the food served in the mid-day meal on Tuesday, in which a lizard had fallen, 76 children have been admitted in this hospital. All of them are stable. One girl, who was shifted to Bhilwara district hospital on the insistence of her family, is also stable. The person who was incharge of this mid-day meal, Dinesh, has been suspended. The head of the institution, Kailash Chand Garg has also been dismissed," he added.

Earlier, 76 children were admitted in a local hospital after eating the mid-day meal at a school in Rajasthan's Bhilwara district.

The children were rushed to the community health centre yesterday after they complained of nausea. They have since bee discharged.

The authorities here said that they threw the meal away after discovering a lizard in it, but by then quite a few students had already eaten the infected meal.

The mid-day meal programme is facing severe criticism over hygiene and mismanagement after 23 children died this month after consuming pesticide infected food in Bihar's Chhapra district on July 16 and several others have been undergoing treatment at the Patna Medical College and Hospital. (ANI)
