New Delhi, July 29 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Rajnath Singh on Monday expressed confidence about winning the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, and said that his political outfit wants to build an India that is not only affluent, but can lead the world in knowledge and technology.
"We have to achieve our mission in 2014. We have to form the government in India under the leadership of BJP in 2014 so that we can take India to the pinnacle of glory...and build an India that is not only wealthy, but can lead the world in knowledge and technology," he said, while addressing the BJP Mahila Karyakarta Sammelan here.
Singh also raised his voice for a Congress-free India.
"You might have seen how the Congress has come up with new definitions of poverty. Those sitting in power have no understanding about the pains of poverty. I would like to tell the leaders sitting in power that if you want to see poverty, don't see it in statistics. If you want to see poverty, look into the eyes of the poor," he said.
Singh further claimed that the Congress Party has not been able to achieve success in removing poverty and unemployment.
The BJP President claimed that the saffron outfit is different from the other parties as it has never strayed from its founding principles ever.
Leader of Opposition in Rajya, Arun Jaitley, who also spoke on the occasion, launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh over the deteriorating condition of the Indian economy.
"The Prime Minister is an economist, but there has been a consistent decline in the economy in last 10 years," he said.
Jaitley alleged that the UPA Government has become heartless and is making fun of the poor by manipulating poverty figures.
Highlighting the failures of the UPA Government, Jaitley claimed that the elections can take place any time. (ANI)
