BJP pulls up Shakeel Ahmad, says 'Congress has faith only in FDI and FBI'

New Delhi , Sat, 27 Jul 2013 ANI

New Delhi, July 27 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday lashed out at Congress General Secretary Shakeel Ahmad over his remark that the opposition should seek a probe by the FBI on Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi visa row.

BJP spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi claimed the saffron outfit has faith in the Indian judicial process and in the thinking and soul of this nation rather than any other foreign agency.

She alleged that Shakeel Ahmad is version two of his party colleague Digvijay Singh and is infamous for his statements.

"All I can say is I don't know whether this is the official line of the party or not. But except that the gentleman, who was talking about Madhubani module till yesterday, and today he started speaking about FBI. And I can only say that the faith in the investigative and security agencies of this country has been derogated by the Congress Party to such an extent that its own leaders, former MPs and former Ministers are today showing their faith more in FBI and advising others for FBI rather than CBI because they can only have faith in FDI or FBI and they are getting confused between the two," said Lekhi.

"So, as far as BJP is concerned, BJP has faith neither in FDI or FBI. We have faith in the Indian judicial process and in the thinking and soul of this nation rather than any other foreign agency. We don't want to subjugate the Indian ness or Indian ethos to any outsider," she added.

Launching a scathing attack on the BJP, Ahmed earlier in the day said that the saffron outfit can now appeal to US probe agency FBI to investigate the matter relating to a letter by MPs to President Barack Obama against Modi as it does not have faith in the Indian agency.

"Letter of MPs was signed in India and used in USA. Due to lack of faith in CBI, BJP may appeal to President Obama for an impartial inquiry by FBI," he tweeted.

Ahmad had raked up a controversy last week with his remark linking the birth of terror outfit Indian Mujahideen to 2002 Gujarat riots.

The BJP has accused the government of misusing the CBI on several matters, more recently on the issue of Ishrat Jahan alleged fake encounter case.

The BJP had earlier demanded that there should be probe into the recent issue of alleged forging of signatures of some MPs on a letter to Obama demanding that Modi not be given a visa.

In a new twist in the controversy over Modi's US visa, several lawmakers, including senior CPI (M) leader Sitaram Yechury, have denied signing any such letter seeking denial of US visa for the Gujarat Chief Minister.

The U.S. administration had imposed the visa ban on Modi, who was recently made the campaign-in-charge for the BJP, after the 2002 post-Godhra riots. (ANI)
