Mumbai, July 23(ANI): Ganesh Kumar Yadav, the president of the Mumbai Youth Congress, has denied all allegations against the youth wing of the party after a Mumbai eatery became the latest focus of political controversy in the country.
It has been alleged that party workers, led by Yadav, forced the Aditi Pure Veg restaurant to shut down after the eatery showed the UPA Government in poor light through quirky food bills.
"I deny this allegation. We have not forcefully closed any restaurant" Yadav said.
The cash memos that allegedly triggered the furious step taken by the Mumbai Youth Congress had a footer at the bottom which read: 'As per UPA Government, eating money (2G, Coal, CWG scam) is a necessity and eating food in an AC restaurant is a luxury.'
Yadav has rejected any allegations of any perpetrated violence towards the restaurant property or the owner saying, "We went to the police station, filed our complaint, police team was sent to the hotel, we went there and did a peaceful protest over there. If we did a violent protest and closed it (the hotel) the police would have registered a complaint against us. The case was registered against the hotel owner (under) Section 501. It has been registered in his name, not under our name. These allegations are totally baseless. There is no substance to it."
He also alleged that there were hotels "such as these" which were running as 'fronts' of other political parties to campaign for them against the Congress.
Yadav's allegation comes as a reaction to Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) leader Narendra Modi's tweet which commented on the 'forceful' closure of Aditi Pure Veg terming it as the "height of intolerance" on the social network.
The incident took place even as Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi asked his party men to stand united and speak in a positive note in the run-up to the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
"Let's get talent from states. Let youth and seniors work together," he said in his address at the Congress media conclave in New Delhi yesterday.
Gandhi, 43, impressed upon the spokespersons to communicate to the masses the major initiatives taken by the UPA Government at the Centre.
According to reports, Srinivas Shetty, the owner of Aditi Pure Veg restaurant, came up with the bills to protest the service tax on air-conditioned restaurants.
The Congress youth workers allegedly stormed the restaurant yesterday afternoon, and asked the owner to shut the shop. (ANI)
