London, July 3 (ANI): US actress Geena Davis has predicted that it is going to take an estimated 700 years to reach gender role equality and representation in Hollywood films.
The 57-year-old star, who founded her own media and gender think tank, said that despite female-led films like 'The Hunger Games' and 'Bridesmaids,' the industry hasn't changed and neither is it going to.
The study commissioned by The Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media found that even though women make up 50 percent of movie audiences, there was only one role of female for every three male roles in family films and children's programming, the Independent reported.
The study also found that only about 3.4 percent of business leaders and 4.5 percent of high-level politicians seen in movies were women.
According to the Annenberg School at the University of Southern California, only 28 percent of speaking characters in last year's major films were female, down from 33 percent just 5 years ago. (ANI)
