Ajmal backs Pak to 'bounce back' following CT drubbing

Karachi, Wed, 26 Jun 2013 ANI

Karachi, June 26 (ANI): Pakistan spin maestro Saeed Ajmal has said that he believed that Pakistan can bounce back from their recent troubles and put an improved show in their upcoming international assignments.

Reproach, outbursts, tantrums and other displays of anger still circle Pakistan's abysmal failure at the ICC Champions Trophy, in which the team finished bottom after losing all their three group matches against West Indies, South Africa and India, the Express Tribune reports.

According to the report, the results prompted a widespread belief that they had more to do with the team's underperformance in batting rather than an outstanding show from the opposing sides, with calls for a major overhaul following almost immediately.

However, Ajmal disagreed with the notion that the future was bleak, saying that they will learn from their mistakes and use their utmost potential to give good results to the nation, adding that he is hopeful that the team will bounce back and overcome this phase as each player wants to compensate for the failure.

But, Ajmal admitted the team had failed, saying that all the players are equally disheartened like the supporters, adding that even though the players tried their best to lift the side, they could not click because of the difficult conditions

The spin genius, who could take only four wickets from his 25 overs in the Champions Trophy, further said that he was working hard for next month's tour of the West Indies that includes five One-Day Internationals and a couple of Twenty20 internationals, adding that the tour would be a tough one as the West Indies have a good limited-overs side.

Stating that he is working on his fitness and practicing on the nets to give an improved show in the Caribbean, Ajmal also said that West Indies possess hard-hitting batsmen, including Chris Gayle, which will be a challenge for him as a spinner. (ANI)
