New York, June 23 (ANI): A Pakistani origin photography student from Rochester, England, has said that people - and clothing brands - just lift culturally important symbols and turn them into new trends.

Sanaa Hamid said that people who wear these trends have no idea about the cultural significance these have, the New York Daily News reported.

The 21-year-old photography student said that she doesn't know from where to begin, as the things that have been made fashionable range from dreadlocks, traditional African prints, images of Hindu gods, Native American accessories, henna, Arabic scripture, tikka headpieces, bindis.

In her photography project, 'Cultural Appropriation: A Conversation,' she has documented specific moments of cultural appropriation.

In her photos, a growing number of volunteers say what these objects mean to them. (ANI)
