England win toss, ask India to take first strike

Birmingham, Sun, 23 Jun 2013 ANI

Birmingham (United Kingdom), June 23 (ANI): England won the first mini-battle of the ICC Champions Trophy summit clash on Sunday at Birmingham, when Alastair Cook called correctly at the toss and without any hesitation asked India to bat first keeping the uncertain weather in mind

England are up against the best batting side of the tournament, but also a side that has not had its middle order tested at all. India was expectedly unchanged, retaining the XI that has won four matches in the tournament comprehensively.

England made one change, bringing in Tim Bresnan ahead of Steven Finn. The reason behind the move, it is assumed, is that Edgbaston is a reverse-swing-friendly ground, and Bresnan can reverse the ball.

England 1 Alastair Cook (capt.), 2 Ian Bell, 3 Jonathan Trott, 4 Joe Root, 5 Eoin Morgan, 6 Ravi Bopara, 7 Jos Buttler (wk), 8 Tim Bresnan, 9 Stuart Broad, 10 James Tredwell, 11 James Anderson

India 1 Shikhar Dhawan, 2 Rohit Sharma, 3 Virat Kohli, 4 Dinesh Karthik, 5 MS Dhoni (capt. and wk), 6 Suresh Raina, 7 Ravindra Jadeja, 8 R Ashwin, 9 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10 Ishant Sharma, 11 Umesh Yadav By Praful Kumar Singh (ANI)
