London, June 22 (ANI): Italy manager Cesare Prandelli has offered his apology for his 'black' joke against player Mario Balotelli during protests that marred the Confederation Cup in Brazil.
According to BBC, Prandelli had said that Balotelli was the only player allowed out of the team to leave the hotel because he is black.
The team was forbidden to leave the hotel rooms owing to violent protests on the streets.
It was later revealed that Balotelli was involved in charity work, helping children from some of Salvador's poorest areas.
Prandelli further said that he was glad the issue was clarified about why the player was allowed to go out adding that what he said was a joke.
Talking about the team's game against Brazil on Saturday, Prandelli said that the team has no plans to back out of the competition because of the violent protests but are concerned about the escalating violence in the nation.
Midfielder Riccardo Montolivo condemned the violence and said that it cannot be accepted regardless of the reason and should be criticized adding that there should be solidarity in those who demonstrate in a civil and peaceful manner, the report added. (ANI)
