New Delhi , Wed, 19 Jun 2013 ANI

New Delhi, June 19 (ANI): The water level of the river Yamuna crossed the danger mark here on Wednesday.

The water level of Yamuna crossed the danger mark of 204.83 metres and had reached 206.40 metres. The Flood Control and Irrigation department said the water level would touch 207.05 meters later on Wednesday.

Aseem, a resident said, "The water level is expected to rise. We will have to remove our shop from this place, if the water level rises, we cannot have our shop here. It is already half submerged, my tea shop is already half submerged, I don't know what I will do."

The rains have been at least twice than heavy as usual in northwest and central India as the June-September monsoon spreads north, covering the whole country a month faster than normal.

Early monsoon rains have swollen the Ganges, resulting in homes being swept away, over 100 people dying and tens of thousands left stranded.

In Delhi, the Yamuna has uprooted trees and submerged temples and shanties.

n the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand, where officials say at least 60 people had been killed, air force helicopters air-dropped commandos to help rescue some of the tens of thousands of people unable to move because of the floods. (ANI)
