Sonipat (Haryana), June 17 (ANI): The Soros Foundation has selected O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) students to participate in its innovative global internship programme focusing on human rights and governance.

These students have been selected along with students from Harvard Kennedy School, Oxford Blavatnik School, Paris Sciences PO, Beijing Tsinghua University and Buenos Aires Universidad Torcuato Di Tella.

The programme seeks to support the next generation of open society leaders.

In order to deepen public policy expertise in the field of human rights and governance, the Open Society Foundations and the School of Public Policy at Central European University announced the creation of a new internship programme.

The Open Society Internship for Rights and Governance will support 14 students from top graduate level programmes to work on the intersection of public policy, advocacy, and human rights. The internship programme promises to build a dedicated alumni network that will support innovative policy making in the rights and governance fields,a university release said.

"This internship reflects my longstanding commitment for seeding the next generation of leaders dedicated to building open societies." said George Soros, Founder and Chairman of the Open Society Foundations.

The Open Society Internship for Rights and Governance seeks to build bridges between the graduate students of today and the policymakers of tomorrow. The Open Society Internship for Rights and Governance is a project of the Open Society Foundations that launched in the summer of 2013 in partnership with the School of Public Policy of the Central European University. It is designed to inspire a new cohort of practitioners committed to working both in the public interest and at the forefront of global policy.

The highly competitive program allows a limited number of students from top public policy schools to immerse themselves in the ideas and practice of open society through a 10-day clinical seminar in Budapest at the School of Public Policy of the Central European University, followed by a six-week intensive internship at a policy- and rights-oriented nongovernmental organization selected for its outstanding work. Together the distinctive seminar and internship will prepare participants to act confidently in complex situations where policy, advocacy, international actors, and human rights intersect.

In its first year the highly competitive program accepted students from Oxford University in England, Harvard University in the United States, Sciences Po in France, Di Tella University in Argentina, O.P. Jindal University in India, and Tsinghua University in China.

The host organizations where the students of O.P. Jindal Global University will intern are e-Governance Academy (eGA), Estonia and Institute of Public Affairs, Poland. (ANI)
