Washington, June 8 (ANI): The controversial revealing of US-run Prism programme, which accesses personal data of users across major tech sites, has reportedly foiled an Islamist militant plot to bomb the New York subway system in 2009.
The US government sources said that Najibullah Zazi, an Afghan-born US resident, had hatched the plan to bomb the subway system, which was foiled after tracing of email data of foreign intelligence suspects, reports the New York Post.
According to the report, John Miller, CBS News correspondent, a former U.S. intelligence and FBI official said that the Zazi plot was discovered after running across an email sent to a rarely used al Qaeda address that was associated with a notorious bomb-maker based in Pakistan.
Zazi's emails were traced to Denver from where he was arrested in 2010. He later pleaded guilty to a number of charges including conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction and providing material support to terrorists, the report added. (ANI)
