Udhampur (J-K), June 7 (ANI): Udhampur Police have seized nearly 10 kilograms of heroin.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Udhampur) Benam Tosh, said a suspect, identified as Majid Khan, was arrested with the narcotics, worth millions of rupees during a vehicle check.
Police informed that the investigation is underway.
Earlier this year, the anti-narcotics directorate destroyed 445 kilograms of heroin seized in Punjab between 2008 and 2012.
A UN report highlighted the need for in-depth analysis of why drug seizures have declined in South Asia at a time when production of drugs like heroin and amphetamines is increasing.
The government is trying to establish the scale of production of drugs like cannabis, heroin and illegal pharmaceuticals in India. (ANI)
