New Delhi, June 3 (ANI): A large number of Kannada writers, politicians, artists and academicians paid rich tributes to former Vice President of India Basappa Danappa Jatti as part of a birth centenary celebration here on Monday.
The editor of Dehali Kannadiga, M.B. Samaga , who inaugurated the celebrations here said that Jatti has served as the Chief Minister of Jamakhandi state, deputy Chief Minister of Bombay, Chief Minister of Mysore, (now Karnataka), Lt Governor of Pondicherry, Governor of Orissa and Vice President of India during his span of active political life from 1940 to 1979. He was acting president of India from February 11 to July , 1977.
Jatti was also the founder of the Basava Samiti, an organisation propagating the preaching of the 12th century saint, philosopher and social reformer asaveshvara. (ANI)
