Flowers mesmerize tourists in Shimla

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), June 2 (ANI): Assortment of bright coloured flowers has mesmerized hordes of tourists at a flower show in Shimla.

The Amateur Golden and Environment Society (SAGES) had organised a three-day flower show in the beautiful locales of Shimla, which is attracting tourists from across the country who are visiting the hill-town to beat the summer heat.

The organizers said that shows like these boosts tourism, which brings more business to the state.

The flower show also imparts knowledge about conservation of environment and encourages people to plant more trees.

Organizer of the show, M. R. Sharma said they have displayed around 200 varieties of flowers to attract tourists.

"The main objective of this show is to spread awareness among the gardeners and farmers, so that they may get knowledge about varieties of flowers that can be grown. Therefore, we have displayed about 40 to 50 varieties of flowers in this show from the horticulture department. We are also selling saplings. Its an effort to boost the flower business which will in turn benefit the gardeners and farmers," said Sharma.

Carnations, roses, lilies, orchids, tulips, daisies and dazzling floral garlands took the breath away of the tourists in Shimla.

The flower carnival showcased around 200 varieties of flowers including magnolia, marigold, primrose, dog flower, pansy and much more.

The visitors were thrilled to see the show and said that it was a novel experience for them.

"These flowers are beautiful. I guess this is why the mountain soil is said to be very fertile. These flowers have exceptionally bright and beautiful colours," said Madhu Gupta, a tourist.

The flowers are in full bloom as weather is conducive. The show was an instant hit with the tourists, who in a bid to escape the torrid summer visit the hill station this time of the year.

The pink Rhododendron, used for medicinal purposes, has been declared as the state flower of Himachal Pradesh. (ANI)
