Visakhapatnam, June 2 (ANI): Locals including senior citizens hailed the opening of post offices run by women in Visakhapatnam.
The objective of the government to open an all women's post office is to empower them.
The other motive of the all women post office is to show that given the right kind of opportunity women can perform well in any sphere.
Sharada Sampath, Post Master-General, Visakhapatnam said that they hoped in the near future more all women post office would open in the state.
"This is a symbolic step you can say that has been decided by the government and in future it is hoped that we will have many more such post offices. One for each metro has been planned," said Sampath in Visakhapatnam.
Women employees were seen attending the customers at the counters and people looked happy and satisfied with their services.
Raghavayya, a senior citizen said that they hoped that women would provide better services, as they are more patient.
"I am having monthly income plan saving account here. The branches are being operated from today by the ladies and I hope they will provide very good service because they are work minded and patient," said Raghavayya.This is Vishakhapatnam's first womens' post office and fourth in the country after Delhi, Mumbai and Kashmir.The government is taking various initiatives to empower the women. In the federal budget for the fiscal year of 2013-2014, the government had announced the setting up of an all-women bank by October-end. (ANI)
