London, May 26 (ANI): Former Chairman and Commissioner of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Lalit Modi on Sunday-amidst rising tensions among the cricketing fraternity-clearly stated that current president of the IPL N.Srinivasan should be sacked if he continues being defiant.

Better known as the architect of the million-dollar baby IPL, Lalit Modi, further said , "This is something that is unheard of. He has to own the fault. He is responsible and hence should resign. If he does not resign then he should be unceremoniously sacked. But more important, the co-conspirators who allowed this to carry on, they need to go too. It can't be that we have Srinivasan going all of a sudden."

Taking a dig at his one-time colleagues Modi further said, "We can't have a Arun Jaitley coming in, or a Rajiv Shukla coming in, or an Anurag Thakur coming in or Jyotiraditya Scindhya coming in. They are all co-conspirators. They are all politicians. They have used their clout and very clearly they have misused their machinery of the BCCI and government to facilitate it and they must go."

Continuing his all-out attack he further said, "All of these people must that have abetted and allowed this to happen. I think the IPL should be handed over to the owners. They are the biggest constituents of the game. As far as the IPL is concerned, they are the biggest stakeholders in the game and for the fans alike, they must be handed over."

Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police (Crime), Varanasi, Kamlesh Dikshit in the wake of arresting ten bookies said, "We had received information for some time that betting in the IPL matches was in progress in the area falling under the Chowk police station. The crime branch team was working towards it and with the assistance from personnel of Chowk police station, today we have arrested 10 people and seized 6,40,000 rupees, four computers, one laptop, 30 cell phones."

Earlier in the day, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suspended Chennai Super Kings CEO Gurunath Meiyappan, who was arrested for alleged involvement in betting, pending an inquiry into his role in the IPL spot-fixing scandal.Meiyappan, who is the son-in-law of BCCI President N Srinivasan, was arrested by the Mumbai Police on Friday for allegedly indulging in betting.
