After Rahul rap, Delhi Congress vouches for unity

New Delhi,Politics, Thu, 23 May 2013 IANS

New Delhi, May 23 (IANS) Leaders of the faction-ridden Delhi Congress Thursday said they will drop their differences and fight the coming assembly elections unitedly following a stern talking to by party vice president Rahul Gandhi.

"Rahul told the leaders sternly that he will not tolerate any indiscipline in the party," a party source told IANS against the backdrop of concerns about the party's prospects in the Delhi assembly polls slated later this year due to infighting between the camps of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and state party chief J.P. Agarwal.

According to Dikshit, the meeting was a "wake-up call" for the state party leaders.

"It was a positive meeting indeed. He (Gandhi) woke up all of us. We will fight (assembly elections) together," Dikshit told IANS.

"We had differences...but everything has been sorted out. We will fight the polls together," Agarwal told reporters after the meeting.

Party sources said Gandhi laid stress on bringing more democracy in the party and said that suggestions from party rank and file, ranging from a councillor to an MP, must be taken while formulating election strategy.
