Chennai, May 21 (IANS) A day after he surrendered, suspected cricket bookie Prashanth was Tuesday questioned here and documents were seized from his house in connection with a case registered May 17, said police.
"The interrogation of Prashanth is on... We have seized vital documents relating to the case from his residence," an official of the Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CBCID) told IANS.
Prashanth, who was on the run when CBCID started its crackdown on bookies May 17, surrendered to police Monday evening. He was allegedly hiding at his friend's place here.
Police initially thought Prashanth had escaped from the country as his car was found at the airport here. It turned out that his children had flown to Gujarat.
In the last few days, police had started questioning Prashanth's friends and relatives, forcing him to surrender.
The CBCID team has so far arrested here seven people - Prashanth, Harish Bajaj, S. Vedhachalam, Narpat S. Jain alias Lucky, Goutham, Deepak Bajaj and Sunil Bajanlal - in connection with betting on cricket matches.
S. Rajeswari, superintendent of police at CBCID, earlier said the raids started May 17 after receiving a cheating complaint against suspected bookie Harish Bajaj.
