New Delhi, May 21 (IANS) A Cairo International Film Festival representative has invited India as a partner country for the movie extravaganza, to be held in November.
Soheir Abd El Kader, vice president of Cairo International Film festival, called on India's Information and Broadcasting Secretary Uday Kumar Varma to discuss India's participation as a partner country in the forthcoming edition of the Cairo gala.
The matter was discussed at the ongoing 66th edition of the Cannes International Film Festival, where India is a guest country this year, said a statement. Indian cinema is currently celebrating its centenary year.
Kader requested that India send a special package of Indian films for the upcoming festival, and that a delegation of acclaimed filmmakers and members of the cast of films in the special package, be sent to the festival.
Kader mentioned that they were hoping for greater participation by Indian filmmakers in the Egyptian market, and she assured Varma that the Cairo film fest will facilitate an interaction between the Indian filmmakers and their Egyptian counterparts during the festival.
