'Weepy' Becks ends 'glittering' career with PSG win

London, Sun, 19 May 2013 ANI

London, May 19 (ANI): Football icon David Beckham had reportedly broken down into tears as he captained the newly crowned French champions Paris St-Germain at the Parc des Princes in Paris to a comfortable 3-1 victory over Brest, signifying a fitting end to his glittering career.

Beckham, who was watched by a crowd of 55,000 including his wife, mother, children and former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, had by far his best game since he signed for PSG in January, the Independent reports.

The report further said that the whole Paris team, who had dyed their hair or bald pates in the club colours of red, blue and white to celebrate their first title in 19 years, surrounded and hugged the distraught Beckham before he left the pitch and ended his career.

However, the report mentioned that it is not absolutely certain that this was Beckham's last match as officially he is available for PSG's last game of the season, although sources have said that the former England footballer does not expect to play next week.

According to the report, even though Beckham would be leaving the French champions with a French Ligue 1 winners' medal to add to his record triumphs in the English, Spanish and US leagues, he however played rashly in the game, which was evident from a foul and several raking passes that indicated his desire to go out with a bang.

Meanwhile, Beckham's promise to give his PSG wages, estimated at about 2,00,000 euros-a-week, to a children's charity in Paris, is yet to be fulfilled as the club has still not announced which charity, or charities, will get the money.(ANI)
