Shimla, May 18 (IANS) Ending over five months of speculation after the recovery of a wireless transmitter close to India-China border in Himachal Pradesh, the state police Saturday said it was used by trekkers for communication and posed no security threat.

"The equipment found Dec 4 near Jangi vilage in Kinnaur district by forest officials of Moorang were examined by communication experts and it was revealed that the equipments doesn't pose any security threat," a statement said here.

"No inbuilt secrecy has been found involved. This FM transmitter also contains omni-directional antennae. After examination of the equipment, no security threat has been found and it's not defence equipment," the statement said.

"Moreover, it's amateurish equipment generally used by the trekking groups and it can also be used for commercial purposes," it said.

Police said the area from where the set was found was within 10-15 km aerial distance from the China border.

Himachal Pradesh shares a porous border with China and police say smuggling of rare species of fauna and Chinese goods like blankets and thermos flasks are quite frequent.
