Spot fixing brings shame, says Anurag Thakur

Dharamsala, May 17 (IANS) The arrest of Indian pacer Sreesanth along with two of his Rajasthan Royals teammates - Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila - for spot fixing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has brought shame and action would be initiated against them if found guilty, Indian cricket board joint secretary Anurag Thakur said here Friday.

"We are awaiting investigation report of the Delhi police. We will study it and then act," Thakur, a BJP MP and Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) administrator, told reporters.

Thakur said the BCCI (Board for Control of Cricket in India) has zero tolerance towards corruption and it is taking the help of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in monitoring all matches, even in the domestic league.

He said there was need for bringing tough laws to check such incidents in future.

"Section 420 of the IPC (Indian Penal Code), under which the players have been booked for spot fixing does not provide harsh punishment for the offence," he noted.

Thakur was here for the second IPL match between Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab Saturday at the HPCA's stadium, one of the newest cricket venues in the country.
