Washington, May 16 (ANI): Men's upper body strength can predict their political motivation about economic redistribution, a study has revealed.
The researchers derived that the link between the physical strength and political motives has been there from the time of our ancestors and continues to influence the behaviour even today.
In a new research published in Psychological Science, journal of Association of Psychological Science data on bicep size, socioeconomic status and opinion about economic redistribution of wealth from people of US, Argentina and Denmark was collected and analyzed.
In earlier days, the decisions about the distribution of resources were made based on the show of physical strength of an individual.
Proving their hypothesis, the researchers found that wealthy men with high upper body strength were less likely to support redistribution while those who were less wealth and same strength supported it.
On the other hand, men with low upper body strength were less likely to support their own self-interest. Poor men showed less support to the same.
The research results were however not applicable to women because over the evolutionary period women had less to gain from engaging in direct physical aggression.
The research indicated that an evolutionary perspective will help illuminate political motivations of men. (ANI)
