Karnataka CM meets Manmohan Singh

New Delhi, May 16 (ANI): Karnataka Chief Minister K. Siddaramaiah, who is on a visit to New Delhi, met Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh here today.

The Prime Minister had earlier congratulated Siddaramaiah on his election as Chief Minister of Karnataka, and also wished him well for the future.

According to television reports, during his stay in the capital, Siddaramaiah is expected to hold consultations with central leadership on the composition of his Cabinet.

K. Siddaramaiah, who led the Congress Party to victory in the May 5 assembly elections in Karnataka, took oath as the state's 22nd chief minister on May 13.

Congress made a spectacular comeback in Karnataka wresting power after seven years in its old southern fortress. The party won 121 seats in the 224-member assembly.

The BJP and Janata Dal (Secular) finished second with both winning 40 seats each.

Yeddyurappa's KJP won six seats, while the independents and others won 16 seats.

Elections in Karnataka were conducted for 223 seats. Elections in one constituency - Periyapatna-was deferred to May 28 due to the death of the BJP candidate. (ANI)
