Sydney, May 14 (ANI): New Zealand bowler Tim Southee has been cleared to play against England in the first Test at Lord's on Thursday, after he was withdrawn midway through the drawn four-day match against the England Lions following a pain in his left-foot.
As coach Mike Hesson considers employing four seamers for the first Test, Southee was passed fit to play his 25th Test and his second at the famous London ground after a successful treatment on his left toe, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.
According to Hesson, Southee is fully fit and had to undergo the treatment only as a precautionary measure, adding that the bowling attack for the first of two Tests is still to be confirmed.
The report however, said that Hesson has given lie to speculations that Southee and Trent Boult will be supported by either Neil Wagner or Doug Bracewell by hinting that all the four seamers could play.
Hesson further said that the decision to omit left-arm spinner Bruce Martin would depend on an assessment of the Lord's pitch, adding that they have to choose the side that best suits the conditions.
Martin impressed in his step up to Test cricket during the drawn home series against England in March, which followed a solid 13-year domestic career, the report added. (ANI)
