Srinagar, May 7 (ANI): In order to protect themselves, a group of thirty girls underwent martial art training in Kashmir.

The camp was organised by Jammu and Kashmir Taekwondo Association in Budgam district.

General Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Taekwondo Association, Syed Shuja said that the training was imparted to the girls so that they can save themselves from any violence.

"There is a lot of talent in the girls of the state, especially if I go to Women College; I have trained a lot of girls. We have trained girls in various parts of Srinagar. They are progressing and are able to defend themselves. I thought of training girls in the backward areas of the state, girls who are engaged in farming. I thought of training them so that they are able to defend themselves," said Shuja.

Initially, most conservative Kashmiri families were reluctant to let their girls participate in a sporting activity.

However, on realizing the importance of martial art, they relented and permitted their daughters to learn it.

The taekwondo trainees feel that the martial art would help them build their stamina and enhance their ability to defend themselves.

"We are very happy because we participated in the camp. Earlier these events were never organised in our villages. It is a very good step that the helpers and assistants take the initiative to train the girls. I would like to thank my trainer that he urged us and motivated us to participate in this camp. Now we can defend ourselves and protect ourselves anywhere," said Farah, a participant.

The training programme will not only ensure their security and boost their confidence.(ANI)
