Kolkata, May 6 (IANS) Terming the Saradha Group chit fund scam as a "disaster", Magsaysay award-winning writer Mahasweta Devi Monday said the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) should be called in if it could solve the case.
"This entire issue is a disaster. The government should do as much as it can," the octogenarian writer-social activist told media persons at her residence.
She asserted that chit funds should not be allowed to proliferate.
"We definitely do not want that in any way these chit funds should be allowed to proliferate. We never wanted them and yet they have sprung up."
Asked whether the case should be handed over to the CBI, she said: "This issue must be dealt with. If the CBI can solve it, then so be it."
