Himachal developing 3 new industrial estates

Shimla, May 5 (IANS) Himachal Pradesh would soon have three new industrial estates to promote industrialisation, an official said here Sunday

Three new state-of-the-art industrial areas are being developed in Una, Solan and Kangra districts and about 500 'bigha' (one bigha is 0.4 hectare) has been identified in each district, a government spokesperson told IANS.

To promote food processing industry, he said the government would soon come out with a vision document and a roadmap.

"The government is encouraging setting up of food parks and encouraging industries based on fruits and vegetables and units based on locally available raw material. All these have been included in the priority sector and are being offered special incentive package," he added.

According to official data, the hill state has 39,254 industrial units with a total investment of Rs.17,601 crore, which are providing employment to over 2.72 lakh people.

To facilitate the entrepreneurs, officials said, the government has set up state-level single window clearance and monitoring authority headed by the chief minister.

The clearances by the authority are now being given within a period of 90 days of receiving the application.

The four-month-old Virbhadra Singh government has accorded approval to 38 industrial proposals with an outlay of Rs.608.64 crore.

"Projects with investment worth Rs.400 crore are in the pipeline. In addition, under the National Mission of Food Processing Industries (NMFPI) alone, six proposals have been approved with an investment of Rs. 10.64 crore," said another official.
