New Delhi, May 4 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee felicitated the country's cinematic best across various categories at the 60th National Film Awards in New Delhi.
Mukherjee, who was accompanied by Union Telecom minister- Kapil Sibal and Information and Broadcasting minister- Manish Tewari, urged the film industry, which had entered into its hundredth year, to promote positive societal values.
Legendary Kathak exponent Pandit Birju Maharaj was felicitated for best choreography for Tamil film 'Vishwaroopam'.
Veteran actor Pran got the Dadasaheb Phalke award, though he could not attend the ceremony.
Shoojit Sircar, the director of 'Vicky Donor', looked extremely happy on winning the national award and said that he felt privileged of being honored in the centenary year of cinema.
"I am extremely privileged that on 100 years of cinema we are getting this award, Vicky Donor got the wholesome entertainment award and three awards. So it just makes us really ecstatic and we are humbled and happy and jumping, can't expect more," Sircar said.
John Abraham, Parineeti Chopra, Huma Qureshi and R. Madhavan were also spotted at the most prestigious ceremony of the industry.
Versatile actor Irfan Khan, who also clinched a national award for his role as athlete turned dacoit in 'Paan Singh Tomar', also expressed his delight upon receiving his first national award.
"This was the right occasion to get to get my first national award," Khan said
Meanwhile, lyricist Prasoon Joshi said that he was fortunate to be associated with the world's largest film industry as it completes 100 years.
"Cinema has influenced our language, our culture and I would like to thank all those who are associated with the film fraternity over the past 100 years. I am extremely fortunate to be a small fraction of this huge film industry," Joshi said.
Filmmakers and artists belonging to several regional mediums were also felicitated during the event. (ANI)
