AAI mourns Pratima Boro's death

New Delhi, May 4 (IANS) The Archery Association of India (AAI) Saturday expressed deep shock and sorrow at the untimely death of young archer Pratima Boro. Pratima allegedly committed suicide in the National Archery Coaching Camp at Pune.

In a statement, AAI president Vijay Kumar Malhotra said Pratima's death is a great loss for the entire archery fraternity adding that she was one of the rising stars of Indian archery. On behalf of the AAI, Malhotra conveyed condolences to her family members.

Hailing from Kokrajhar, Assam, Pratima started her career with Tata Archery Academy, Jamshedpur where she spent four years before joining Indian Railways. She represented India at sub-junior, junior and senior levels.

The Assamese won Individual Gold and Team Silver in Asian Grand Prix at Tehran in 2008. She played an important role in winning Team Gold in the South Asian Archery Championship, Jamshedpur in 2009. Pratima last attended an individual event at the Asian Grand Prix and Youth Asian Championship in Dhaka in 2011, where she won Team Gold.
