Indian media should learn from Boston bombing

Goa,Media,Defence/Security,Terrorism, Sat, 04 May 2013 IANS

Panaji, May 4 (IANS) The Indian media could learn from the Boston bombing when the public and security agencies helped to close down the American city after the terror attack, a former RAW official said Saturday.

Former special secretary of RAW Amber Sen was delivering a lecture at the International Centre, Goa.

"The media were not good in Mumbai (26/11 terror strike). You do not give minute by minute coverage (of a terror attack) which is watched all over the world," said Sen.

Sen has also served as the advisor to the National Security Council.

The live coverage of the Mumbai terror attack in November 2008 reportedly enabled the Pakistan-based handlers of the terrorists to relay messages back to the foot soldiers about security movement and the presence of trapped survivors in the hotels under siege.

Sen praised the manner in which Boston downed its shutters and people responded to government directives to stay put at home, even as the police and security agencies hunted for one of the suspects.

"If it had happened in Hyderabad, would everyone had stayed at home?" Sen asked?
