Lok Sabha adjourned till 2 p.m. over Sarabjit death, other issues

New Delhi, May 2 (ANI): The Lok Sabha was adjourned till 2 p.m. on Thursday, as the opposition, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), trooped into the Well of the Lower House, denounced Pakistan over the death of Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh in Lahore's government-run Jinnah Hospital.

Speaker Meira Kumar read out an obituary note condoling the death of Sarabjit Singh. Members stood in silence for a while to pay respect to the departed soul.

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) members also rushed into the well of the House, demanding a fresh probe by a Special Investigation Team under the Supreme Court into the 1984 riots in Delhi.

Amidst continued slogan shouting, the Speaker adjourned the House till 2 pm.

In the Rajya Sabha, BJP members trooped into the well, demanding the Prime Minister's resignation over the issue of coal block allocations.

Shouting slogans, Samajwadi Party members also protested against the Chinese incursion in Ladakh.

As the uproar continued, Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari adjourned the House till noon.The house has since resumed business.

Speaking to media persons outside Parliament, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Rajiv Shukla condemned the death of Sarabjit Singh in Pakistan, terming it as very unfortunate.

He said the Pakistan Government should apologise and order a high level probe.

He also demanded the arrest of all jail officials responsible for the death of Sarabjit Singh.

BJP spokesman Shahnawaz Hussain said his party will support the government if it brings a censure motion in Parliament against Pakistan. He said the government has failed on the diplomatic front. (ANI)
