New Delhi, May 1 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday hit out at the Congress-led UPA Government for not acting tough on the Chinese incursion issue, and questioned the political will of the Centre on this matter.
"What has happened in China is today 16th day. They have come in 19 kilometres, but still it is surprising that India is not acting. Prime Minister refuses to talk to his Chinese counterpart. Not even the Foreign Minister or the Defence Minister makes straight calls to Chinese counterparts and say enough is enough," said BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar.
"We have a huge trade with China in which China is interested. We have all diplomatic options and we have local options also, but this government, which is paralysed, cannot take decisions because such decisions require political sanction. And that's why I hope that the Army Chief has given the clues of what can be done to the government, but I am not sure whether this government has a political will. They have lost it," he added.
Chief of Army Staff, General Bikram Singh today briefed the Cabinet Committee on Security on the incursion in Ladakh, where Chinese troops have put up tents 19 km inside Indian territory.
Defence minister A.K. Antony, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid and Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde were present at the meeting that was chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
Three flag meetings have taken place between the two sides so far. The Chinese are demanding dismantling of infrastructure created by the Indian side in Eastern Ladakh including the Daulat Beg Oldi area. The last meeting was held yesterday at Chushul between Brigadier-level officers from the two sides.
In the meeting, India also made its stand clear that there should be an unconditional withdrawal of Chinese troops from the Indian territory as per the agreements signed between the two sides on earlier occasions.
On April 15, a Platoon-strength contingent of China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) entered the Indian territory in Daulat Beg Oldi (DBO) sector in eastern Ladakh and erected a tented post, setting the stage for a face-off with Indian troops.
Daulat Beg Oldi, which is located in northernmost Ladakh, is a historic camp site. It is located on an ancient trade route connecting Ladakh to Yarkand in Xinjiang, China. (ANI)
