Dharamsala, May 1 (ANI): Indian and Tibetan students staged a mass rally here on Wednesday to protest against the incursion by the Chinese troops in Jammu and Kashmir's Ladakh region.
Activists of the Students for Free Tibet (SFT) and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) participating in the rally raised anti-Chinese slogans.
Director of Students for Free Tibet, Dorjee Tseten, said India can be secured of Chinese threat only if there is the existence of a free Tibet.
"We have gathered with Indian activists and Ladakhi activists with Tibetan activists to jointly protest against China's incursion in eastern Ladakh part. We are strongly condemning China's acts, and also we are calling that Tibet's freedom is the ultimate security for India, and for that we have joined here to protest," he said.
The ABVP students participating in the protest called for cancellation of External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid's upcoming visit to China.
"Our Foreign Minister is going to China to take part in friendly talks. We want that he should cancel that visit. These Chinese should be sent off from our territories and then talks should be held," said Anchal Ranaut, the spokesperson of Himachal Pradesh unit of ABVP.
Chief of Army Staff, General Bikram Singh today briefed the Cabinet Committee on Security on the incursion in Ladakh, where Chinese troops have put up tents 19 km inside Indian territory.
Defence minister A.K. Antony, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid and Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde were present at the meeting that was chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
Three flag meetings have taken place between the two sides so far. The Chinese are demanding dismantling of infrastructure created by the Indian side in Eastern Ladakh including the Daulat Beg Oldi area. The last meeting was held yesterday at Chushul between Brigadier-level officers from the two sides.
In the meeting, India also made its stand clear that there should be an unconditional withdrawal of Chinese troops from the Indian territory as per the agreements signed between the two sides on earlier occasions.
On April 15, a Platoon-strength contingent of China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) entered the Indian territory in Daulat Beg Oldi (DBO) sector in eastern Ladakh and erected a tented post, setting the stage for a face-off with Indian troops.
Daulat Beg Oldi, which is located in northernmost Ladakh, is a historic camp site. It is located on an ancient trade route connecting Ladakh to Yarkand in Xinjiang, China. (ANI)
