Private IT firm to provide jobs to youths in Srinagar

Srinagar , Tue, 30 Apr 2013 ANI

Srinagar, April 30 (ANI): A private information and technology company has said it will hire over two hundred youths from Kashmir.

The Director of the Centre for Career planning and Counselling at Kashmir University, Shabir Ahmad, said the Government of India in collaboration with the state government is promoting entrepreneurship amongst the unemployed youth of the Kashmir Valley.

A high level delegation of the company recently visited the Kashmir University in Srinagar to recruit the youth under the government sponsored project 'Udaan'.

Youth of the valley would be recruited and will work in different business establishments across country.

Sajad Ahmad, a student hailed the initiative saying that it is an opportunity for the youth to show their talent.

"There are many unemployed youth here which do not get that much of jobs. The government sector is almost saturated and there is no such capacity, so if they are coming here, it's a good step. The youth would be involved and they can get their talent exposed," said Ahmad.

Company officials said they will also conduct college level awareness programs in every district for the youth.

Under the Udaan Scheme, over 40,000 youth will be trained in the next five years. Companies which show interest in the scheme and enter into the agreement with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), will screen and select students from the state.

After assessing the skill of the trainees, a training module, its duration and nature of training will be designed by the companies.

Trainees will be relocated to the training facility. After completion of the training, they will be interviewed for a job with the company and will be placed.

The scheme targets youth who are educated, but do not have marketable skills. It includes graduates, postgraduates, three-year engineering diploma holders and youth with professional degrees.

This talent pool in the absence of job opportunities becomes highly alienated and their potential in turning around the state economy is wasted.

The scheme will facilitate gainful employment for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. By providing them jobs, the scheme proposes to channelise their energies into creative pursuits. (ANI)
