Thiruvananthapuram, April 29 (ANI): The Governments of Kerala and Tamil Nadu have agreed to sharing water under the Parambikulam-Aliyar River Pact after thrashing out details at a meeting held here over the weekend.

The Tamil Nadu Government has agreed to release 100 cusecs of water per day to Kerala, while the Government of Kerala has agreed to release 40 cusecs of water per day to Tamil Nadu from the Shiruvani River to Coimbatore.

Tamil Nadu's Public Water Department Minister T Ramalingam and Kerala's Water Resources Minister P J Joseph said the Joint Water Regulatory Board, consisting of officials from both states, would meet soon to discuss water sharing from Sholayar River.

The meeting was held against the background of Kerala Government's decision to move the Supreme Court to get its due share of water from Tamil Nadu under the Parambikulam-Aliyar River Pact.

Kerala had accused Tamil Nadu of not honouring the pact by not releasing the due share to Chittor River in Palakkad which was facing acute drought situation.

As per the Parambikulam-Aliyar Project (PAP), Kerala is entitled to get 7,250 million unit cubic feet of water a year between July 1 and June 30th of the next year. (ANI)
